Managing ourselves through change...

Change will always be a part of our lives and so understanding the impact of change on wellbeing can be helpful when it comes to processing our emotions and behaviours.
Change can be very unsettling, in some cases it can be exciting but it will always generate a reaction and the key is to understanding how we bounce back and become resilient to change.
We all process change differently in terms of the the speed in which we accept change and the impact that it has on us. The ‘Change Curve’ can really help us make sense of our feelings and our emotional state and it a useful reminder that how we are feeling is a natural reaction to the change we are going through.

When we are going through a change, it is key to notice that the first stages are denial and frustration and this will cause feelings of fear about the uncertainty that we face, anger about the injustice of the change and sadness about things that we might have lost.
It is useful to understand where you are currently on the change curve and what has helped you move through the change curve previously? There can be many things that help us move through the change curve, this could be talking to others, staying connected, think positively about using the situation to your advantage or focussing on spending time doing the things you enjoy.
It is good to reflect and recognise when you have come through difficult times before and how you overcame these so you can be better prepared for when we face challenging times again.
